The Crew of the Charles F. Adams
| This is a list of men and women who have served on the Adams. It is totally voluntary (I'll bet you never saw that in the Navy), your name won't appear here unless you put it here. Do keep in mind, however, that spammers can see your email address here, too.
To get your name/information onto the list, or to update your current information, just fill out the form at the bottom of this page.

Adams Deceased Crew Members
A few rules/suggestions:
- As I was setting up the list on this new site, I noticed that over 100 of the email addresses that were listed are no longer valid. If you see something like this _ in the email address section, that means the address given would not work and the person in question needs to send me a new email address.
- The list is limited to those who have actually served on the USS Charles F. Adams DDG2.
- I'm going to be very cautious about serving as a middle man for people who want to contact other people on the list. To be short and blunt, if their E-mail address is listed, use it. If it isn't listed, assume that they don't want to be contacted.
- I have made it a rule to present the information submitted exactly as it is submitted except in those cases where obvious typo's are apparent, in which case I make the necessary corrections. There have been a few cases, however, where the submission contained language which is not appropriate for a "family" page such as this. I reserve the right to either remove such language or "soften" it to something more acceptable.
- Please do not submit your comments in all capital letter, LIKE THIS!. In the world of Internet etiquette, using all caps is considered shouting and is very bad manners. But the real issue is that I have to retype such entries and I may inadvertently make errors.
That about covers everything, I think. I'll add more rules if needed.

If you would like to look for a fellow crew member, you can do so by doing a search based on the year(s) you served on the Adams. Go to the "Edit" function of your browser (it's on the menu bar) and then go to the "Find in Page" function. Different browsers may give that function a different name, but it should be something similar to that. Just enter the year and let the browser do the rest. Please note that you should use the full year format (1970) rather then any shortened variations. Be sure to check for each year you served. I have modified each entry below so that the years will match the "full" format.

Comments: I have some very fond memories of being a member of the Adams family they mostly
have to do with the NATO cruise visiting all those great places. I hated that the last place I got to visit before I got out was Guantanamo bay Cuba, when we got back from there was the happiest day for me because I got out of the Navy in Mayport at that time, I often think about my experiences while on the Adams and often wonder what would have happened if I had reenlisted and what my life would be like now. I am currently employed with the Florida Highway Patrol as a State Trooper and I have a wife and a 6yo son. If anyone out there would like to E-Mail me I would love to hear from you.

Comments: Many years have passed, still I think back to the great times that I had on board the Adams. My shipmates, the food! Mideast deployment, pulling out of Djibouti at 0200, Egyptian DD's Yom Kipper war. Phoenix beer (the best) Shellback card, (sore backside and knees) Camel riding. I still keep in touch with a follow snipe from Mississippi (Smitty) he's doing well. To all my fellow shipmates those times were the best. I hope to hear from you.

Comments: I, like some of the others, remember problems with our missles. We had them go in the water and come back at the ship, we had one go between the stacks. One time when we were loading them on board, one fell off the rail and put the whole base on alert. If I remember right, they usually hit what they fired at. While on board Adams, I served with some of the best engineers of my career. We had some great times to look back on. After leaving the Adams, I went on to serve on two other ships and two tours of shore duty before retiring in 1980 as MMCM. Looking forward to hearing from some of the crew.

Comments: I still look at the Adams with pride. We learned to recognize many things by their profiles, and the Adams had the profile of a true fighting ship, unlike many of the more modern ship.
I'd like to say thanks to all the ship's crew. The Charles F. Adams was a great place to grow up. I'll have to agree that we don't always realize the true value of our friendships until we loose track of the friend. I hope to hear from many of my old friends.

Comments: The Adams was the only ship I ever served on and for that I am gratful. There were only good times for me there and a lot of growing up. I remember great friends like Dean Baker, and Mark "wheels" Fearing. I recall hearing "On the road again,...and again,...." during the Indian ocean cruise. And free beer from the US Navy. In all, a great way to grow-up. To the ship and crew of the Charles F. Adams, best wishes and stay safe.

Comments: My first ship. What an experience for a young 18 y.o. I really wasn't expecting to get dropped out of a helo onto the fantail in the Persian gulf for my arrival! I felt like a VIP, yeah right, then STG2 Kaarstad led me to my rack in the middle of the AS division lounge that I had to trice up when not sleeping on it. I must say it was a life learning experience living and working with all my crew members back then.

Comments: Proudly served on the Deuce with the crew in Gunplot below the messdecks where we kept the 5" guns on target (always). Revisited the ship at Mayport, FL with the family in 1982 as she was just returning to port. I remember the 1969 Med cruise, 6 months in the Charleston Ship Yard, GITMO Cuba shakedown cruise, Bermuda, the 1972 NATO cruise and dozens of ports along the way. I was on duty as the forward lookout and was the first to spot the Greek freighter that collided with our nest of ships/subs at Naples, Italy. I am probably the only crewmember that actually sounded the collision alarm before a real collision. Oh, the places we've been and the sights we've seen .. Yeah, those were great years.

Comments: I'm very grateful for this site. To find a site that has so many shipmates listed is great. My 1st contact was Scott Lewis 4-1-06. It was great to share old times. We covered such a small portion of our lives. Seeing how we are in the sams area we will have some catching up to do. Some of the other shipmates need to update your e-mail address. Tried to get in touch with some of you. But your e-mail isn't working.I started out as deck ape and became signalmen after about 9 months. We had some of the best Liberty, while alot of you guys were still working We were out hitting the beach. I to remember the hurricane. I spent some time behind the helm going through it. The course was 094. I will never forget that. With the waves smashing down on us I wondered if we where going to make it. We did, and if everyone remembers the deuce came out of it the best. When we got to Rota our ship suffered the less damage. We were by far the best destroyer in the Med. When I was on the Adams We recieved 3 battle E. Some really great gunners. If I had to go to war the Adams is the ship I would have wanted to be on. The whole crew was the best. Some of us had our difference, but when it came down to it WE WHERE THE BEST TEAM a ship could ever have. For all you snipes, you guys really have stayed in touch. My hats off to you all. Without your hard work down in them hell holes at temps out of this world, and to still do your jobs. Well done to you all. Great to see the signal gang on here to. I'll be in touch. Anyone is welcomed to write. My address is current, and my main e-mail tnb1661@yahoo.com. I want to say hello to everyone. Hope to hear from some of you guys. God Bless us all. Timothy Benway.

Comments: I would look forward to hearing from anyone I served with while aboard the Adams. I have remained in contact with one other shipmate over the years, David Merriman, PMSN who lives in Il. Anyone wishing to contact him can do so by e-mailing me and I will provide his address and phone number. Mark Densmore QM3 also lives about an hour from me in Mystic Ct. Although I was his best man at his wedding some years ago, I have not been in contact with him in any years. For the Museum, I would like to place on loan my copy of the Charles F. Adams cruise book from the Mideast cruise we went on in or around the Fall of 1974. I would also like to place on loan to the Museum a patch from DESRON (Destroyer Squadron) 8 which is no longer in existance that the Adams was a part of. They later became a part of DESRON 14 when DESRON 8 was desolved.
I look forward to hearing from any of you soon. I do have vivid memories of the Adams when aboad her and remember the names of many of those I served with.

Comments: Things I remember: The 'incident' in Naples, the collision at sea, rescuing the downed crewman off the plane that crashed in the Med., wayward missiles, rough seas and the calm, beautiful caribbean, and meeting some really good people. After I got out in Dec. '71 in went back to college in Oklahoma where I got my BA. I then discovered Eastern philosophy and Yoga and then toured the world and lived in India for some time. I am a published author, have a website: desertmystics.org, married with three children living in southern California. I remember "Buff", he was leaving as I was coming on-board, also David Tenney, Nicki McClintok, etc., it would be great to hear from some of the guys who served up in CIC back then. What a wild and crazy time it was. Take care y'all.

Comments: Glad to see the Adams is still floating. Thanks to all of you who are working so hard to turn the Adams into a museum. Had a great time on the Chuckie Deuce back in the 80's. Made the Indian Ocean cruise in 81 and learned what Gonzo Station was. Had a blast in Bunberry Australia with the rest of my BT and MM friends. Also made a North Atlantic NATO cruise and a Caribbean cruise. Hope to see some of my old friends at the next reunion.

Comments: Reported aboard the Adams in May of 1970 directly out of "A" school as an E-2, ETRSA.....didn't even know what the "R" stood for. I spent about 3 months aboard, went for 1 short cruise of about 2 weeks, then I got transferred over to the "Silly Willie" DE-1059, also out of Mayport. I assume that the EMO had me transferred because he knew that I was trying to get brother duty on board the USS AULT DD698. Well, that never happened because the AULT got xferred to the reserve fleet and they didn't have a billet for an ETRSA..... So instead of three years at sea with the "Charlie Duce", I only got 3 months... Still it was nice to have served.... What a shock it was to go from such a decked out warship to one of those puny-looking DE's with only 1 gun!!!! It turned out ok, but that's a story for another day.

Comments: Well, it's been a while but here's some people I'm still in touch with and then I'll list some we're wondering where they are? And maybe this will encourage them to email!
Thanks to this website I've got in touch with "Moon" Mullins (now a school assistant principle), got Ferge (Jack Ferguson) to get on here (Jack of all trades..master of?), still in touch with Bruce Loving (master welder/engineer) and Lee Retherford (building contractor) from the GM side of the house. Going to email Mat Tonges.
Does anybody know where the following people are, maybe we can have a reunion??????? or at least email.
GM's first: Dusty (Dusty) Roberts, "Rod" Rodriguez (one of the best people i ever met in the Navy) Chief "Bo" Bovasto, Dan "Grape Ape" Mcqinn (Huntsille?),
Ron Dohr, Gary "Willie" Williams (reenlisted, I saw him in Charleston I think around 1982?) Hey Willie remember the boxing match? Well I got some pictures to post to jog your memory!, Little Roberts, Tanker (did you retire as a Master Chief?), GMMC Lingold (best master chief I ever knew, was on board as Weapons Dept in 79),
lots of others.... Chief Huess, Fred, BB, Mike Breen, Lucas (remember Jaques Cousteau?), Dawson (FT type), Ben from Florida, my good friend Steve Walsh (lost touch hope all is ok) in St. Pete, Tasso (Lee is looking for you),
Murray from Largo??? (lost touch)
I know there are alot more I just can't remember right now.... sorry about that.
Lots more space so I'll ramble on.... do you remember........
* The mooring line breaking at the back of the ship when somebody said: "Give er another turn, she'll be alright!" (sounded like a shotgun going off and Willie picked nylon splinters out of his leg for months)
* The hydraulic rain forrest?
* All the stantions breaking off the back of the boat by our mooring line?
* The faulty After Steering alarm that went off as we were pulling in from a cruise?
* Mahoney? (suddenly disappeared in thin air??????? I wonder why?)
* Mike Corder? (probably owner of a multimillion dollar electronic surveylance business now)
* Painting over those rust lines and salt spray before comming into port?
* The big storms of 80/81 and Fred's wwwwwwwwwwave!!!!
* Security briefings to stay out of the gut and heading right for it?
* Getting to be the bouncer of a famous bar in Puerto Rico after beating all the locals on thier own tables?
* Scoring hits on the Talos birds several times!(frigate said it couldn't be done!) that's why we got (2) battle E's!!!!!!!!! during that time....
* Security alerts?
* Mail buoy watch?
* All those good dive trips in Puerto Rico and the 13 lb. snapper I shot off the officers beach. The cook took it and made "gilli gilli".
* After steering take control!!!!!!
* Fantail cookout in the middle of the Russian ships?
* Boxing on the nonskid in front of the missle launcher? (I finally got to kick Willie's but!)
* The Harry Chapin concert?
* Hang fire in the gunmount.....
* Going through the baddest storms right through the middle on both deployments! We had great trip planners!, were they the Quartemasters?
* The beautiful French beaches? Marseille and Toulon?
* Ouzo? Never drank it and probably can't spell it either!
There are a few things to remember.... lots of good times had by all........ only a few bad, most self inflicted.
I've got some good pictures to post as soon as I figure out how to do it.
I am now 45, retired, married, own a hobby shop business, independently wealthy (for what I need in life) drag race on occasion, and have a passion for 1967 Pontiac GTO's. We may try to do a reunion of some sort in Tennessee around beginning of June 2002 so if you want to drop in, drop a line. Anyway, email and share some sea stories...

Comments: The "Chucky Deuce" was my first ship, and a great place to start - for the short time I was there before she was decom'd. I have fond memories of the ship and crew, who got me my first sea legs and gave a wet-behind-the-ears Ensign the confidence to take charge and succeed. I went from decom on CFA to precom and plankowner on USS Scout (MCM 8), another great ship, before switching to PAO. I'm now a CDR (sel) in the Reserves. Glad to see that the good ship may well live on in perpetuity! Hope to hear from some old shipmates!!

Comments: ...so we're going through all the spaces getting ready to pull into GTMO the next day. STG1 Jones hands me a can of paint thinner mixed with powder blue paint and asks me to get rid of it. Trying to accomplish everything at once, I open the midships door on the port side and dumped the can over the side. Needless to say, at 16 knots, not a drop of paint hit the water. But it did cover the entire port side of the ship. Ah, youth.

Comments: I never thought I'd miss my time on the ol' Deuce, but I do. While I was aboard her we went through Dry-dock in Philly('75), Gitmo training in Cuba, numerous trips to the Carribean, and a Med Cruise. In particular, I remember going to Romania; one of only a few US warships to visit the Black Sea during the "Cold War".
I recently discovered that our XO, P. T. Deutermann, is now an extremely successful Author. Ron Harrison and Glen Davis live in the Philadelphia area. Rick Rucker (our corpsman), I'm sad to say, recently passed away. I've lost touch with just about everyone else I knew from that time. If anyone who remembers me and those strange days from the mid-70s, please feel free to contact me!

The Mideast Cruise of 1973 was stark, but interesting. The North Atlantic cruise of late 1974 was cold (I was 1st Lt at the time). Philadelpia shipyard in 1975 provided a lot of time ashore. Gitmo in the Spring of 1976 was a real challange (I was DCA then).

Comments: Today is 09/14/01 and my wife and went out to our front steps with lighted candles at 7:00 PM this evening to show support for America. We where joined by several neighbors and one of them had USS Charles F. Adams DDG2 baseball cap on, (small world we live in). I have lived next door to Paul Agustine (served aboard around 1970) for 16 years not knowing we had this in common. He told me about this great web page.
My tour on the "The Jolly Charlie" may have been the greatest adventure in my young life. "Join the Navy and see the world", Gitmo, San Juan. Virgin Islands, Med, Northern Europe and Charleston, Panama, Florida, New York and Newport. While in the Med. I was able to get a short leave and visit my Grandmother who lived about 70 miles north of Rome. I was taken there by a cousin whom I had never met before by train and bus, it was the one and only time I saw my Father's mother.
As I have scrolled through this great list of names it brought back many great memories plus some sadness to see that some of us have passed on.
I remember very well that man overboard call and trying to refuel in the North Atlantic in very heavy seas.
My best to all, drop a line when you have a chance and May God Bless America.

Comments: I remember the men overboard in the Med because a firehose broke loose on the forecastle in heavy seas and they sent an officer and 3 or 4 men to gather it up while we were steaming at 30 knots. The intention was not to slow down so that we could make a previously scheduled rendevous with another ship. Well we ended up fishing these guys out of the water but I thought the officer was LT.Muckow.
I wonder if Stephen Snowman remembers the tuna fish caper when a case of tuna fish mysteriously disappeared from a breakout he was making and ended up underneath the deck plates in the IC room.
I remember Chief Healey. There was a great guy. He was involved with the 'Jimmy Fund' when we were in Boston and I think he retired to R.I. There was also an IC3 Richard Blair from Saulte Ste. Marie.
Then there was the Cuban Missile Crisis and the North Atlantic Cruise and the Med Cruise and the Bi-Weekly trips to either Puerto Rico or to Mayport, Florida for plane guard duty for any number of carriers. We spent a lot of time at sea those first 4 years.

Comments: Best ship, best crew of my career. From hot, dark and quiet of the coast of Oman to 33 1/2 knots at full power in the Persian Gulf, the Adams was a steamer. Nice to see some names of real "Hole Snipes", Mr. Nee and Mr. Strode. I get to see the Adams as I travel through Philidelphia, I hope to be able to visit her in Michigan.

Comments: Sometimes I look back on my time in the USN and I ask myself the question: "What the hell was I thinking?!" I often think about my time on the Duece, especially the grat times playing guitar w/Johnny S. on the fantail and writing politcally incorrect songs about politically incorrect subjects.
I have seen the Charley Duece on occasion(or what I think is her) in the yard at Philly on my way to a Flyers game. And I even went as far as to ask someone what it would take to get in and walk her deck one more time. No way! I guess I'll have to wait til the museum opens!
A couple of memories that stick out (besides the PDL-whatever happened to it???) was the time we were in Spain and we were nearly rammed by the Barney as she was pulling into port, and how several of us were "mass-pick-pocketed" by some locals. We drowned our sorrows that night!
Anyone who remembers the night in Cuba when the band played at the Chief's club, please tell me what happened...I just don't remember.
Hope some of the crew I served with reads this and can get in touch. I'd love to hear from you. Take care!

God I wish they would have talked me into shipping over, but I'd probably be an alcoholic. I hung around with Ed Crum, Mike Stein, Doug David Dingus, and other great friends that my memory will not let me recall. I haven't heard from anyone since I got out.

Comments: It was great to find this site after wondering for many years about some of the great guys I served with. I reported aboard not long before the "Duece" left for the Red Sea Cruise. It was during this time that I was initiated into the Royal Order of Shellbacks after being a lowly pollywog. I won't get too long-winded here but I too served with a great group of sailors in the Sonar Shack. I remember Ross McMinn, Mobil, Doug Hearley, Stan Beers, Chief Markham, Ron Harrington, Jonesy, John Loughton, Chief Bright and so many others. I especially remember the yards in Philadelphia because this is where I met my future bride. She was serving as a Navy Nurse at the Naval Hospital, yes, an officer no less. We have been married for 27 years and have three children. I also have great memories of the many trips that Dennis "Doc" Glaude and I took to his home in Manchester, New Hamphire while we were in Philly. I am still in touch with HM2 Glaude, he served as my "Best Man" when I got married. I served as his "Best Man" when he got married to a young lady from Gainesville whom he met on one of our many trips to the lake where my parents lived. I am still in touch with Chief Mike Bright, who reported aboard while we were in dry-dock at Philly in 1975. He subsequently advanced to Chief Warrant Officer, retired and still lives in the Jacksonville, FL. area. I would like to hear from any of you that served aboard the Charlie Duece during my time aboard. Boy I said that I wasn't going to get too long winded but whatever. Hey Mobil, do you remember the night Hank Aaron broke Babe Ruth's HR record. We were sitting in front of the tube at your place in Mayport. Those were great days, as someone said in their synopsis, "we reported on board as boys and left as men." I have done many things since I left the Navy, taught high school math, coached high school football and baseball, and had a successful career in the Insurance Businss, but none compares to the great times aboard the Deuce. I almost forgot, the last I heard and saw of the ship was in Philadelphia again. My wife and youngest son were going through on their way to visit her parents in New Jersey. They went onto the base and got pictures of her tied up to the pier. I also hear they are trying to get her moved to Tampa as a Museum, that would be great.

I still have a picture of myself Danaghy IC2 and someone else that I haven't been able to identify in the cruise book. We were at a nightclub in Lisbon,Portugal. I still remember Danaghy sketching a picture of me. Still have that also. He used to tell me that I was the first Mex/American he ever saw in person. Matter of fact I was the first Mex/American to serve on the Jolly-Charlie. Over the years I have connected with A Lillimagi MM1. He resides in Concord,Ca. I was reading the comments on the web and learned about Rao passing away. I served on Shore Patrol with him a few times. Have very many fond memories of you OLD shipmates. Most of them anyway. Comments: I was the first plankowner to arrive at Bath. The Adams was a hull and superstructure when I
first saw her, no paint and not much interior finished. Since there wasn't much for me to do and I didn't know how anyway, I spent most of my time working with the Preble DLG 15 (I think). As I had some spare time I went to the Bowdoin College Library in Brunswick and looked up info on Charles F. Adams. That's where I got a copy of his family crest which became the emblem shown at the top of the of Web Page.
It was a real thrill to watch a ship get built and come to life and Bath Ironworks was the best possible place to experience it because of all the history. It was also fun to hang out in the bar of the hotel some of us stayed in and listen to sea stories. (I just came back from a trip to Bath which is what got me started looking up the Adams on the web.) Last time I saw the ship while in commission was when I was on a reserve two weeks in Rosy Roads, the next time I saw her was driving into Philadelphia past the Navy Yard and being shocked by seeing that high bow
with the number 2 on it. I can't be that old and neither can the Adams !!
I really hope we can save her and would like to help.

Comments: Oh the memories. Jimmy Buffet and Molly Hatchet, and Lynard Skynard never had anything on us. We left a dent in the local watering holes everywhere we went, from the Med, the Carib and even that waste of 100 days in the Arabian Sea waiting for the Iranian hostages to catch a plane back to the U.S.of A. To all my shipmates, we have memories that we will never forget, most we can't expound upon in this public forum, but we all know the meaning of the brotherhood of the Charlie Duce. The times in the Med, Carib and even Gitmo were good. Charleston was OK but enjoyed Mayport/Jacksonville more. I remember the night the boiler blew and was forever changed by it. Comments: Lots of memories of the Adams. Our homeport was Charleston, SC. Visited Bermuda, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Gitmo, Panama, Key West, and Sh_t City (Norfolk )LOL. Can't forget the Cuban Blockade, we had gone down to Gitmo to test fire our Tarter missles. We had civilian engineers and academy cadets on board.
When we got there we went to General Quarters, only this time we heard "this is not a drill". Afterwards we headed to Colon, Panama to meet troop ships coming thru the canal. We later enjoyed a ships picnic on the beaches of Vieques. I'll never regret joining the Navy and will always be grateful for the people I served alongside of and the ships I served upon. Comments: Plankowner. Enjoyed the Adams so much that I went into the Army. First Med cruise we come into new homeport Charleston and hear "NOW TURN TO TITIVATE THE SHIP". During explosive structual tests, I was on watch in the after engine room and a 1 ft. square deck plate sheared it's screws and went flying in the air. I remember a Tartar hitting a Regulus drone missile dead on the nose when they were supposed to miss.

Comments: I was the Master Helmsman, they used to joke that I was the Captains Boy. I started out on the deck force and became a Yeoman to get off the helm, it didn't (work). I was the greatest YNSN helmsman in the Navy, because I was the only YNSN helmsman in the Navy. We went into the Phili Yards for our overhaul and dropped a five gallon can of tile glue on my hand, busted it pretty bad, from medhold, I was transferred to the USS Suribachi, the second to the worst ship in the Navy, and guess, I became the master helmsman on that ship too, but it was easier.

Comments: After joining the Navy, I said to myself "what did I just do??" Then came the Adams, oh man what a ship. The friendships I made and the places I visited will stay with me for the rest of my life. I ate, drank, and fought with all you guys. You will always have a special place in my heart. But let's all not forget that the MMs and BTs ruled the ship. I will never forget the med cruises and the Caribean, especially when Craybe and O' Donnell jumped overboard portside. Those were the best years of my life and thanks to each and everyone of! you.

Comments: It was a proud day in 1960, on a cold
day in Boston, MA, when we raised the colors as a fully commissioned ship, and
first of her class in the U.S. Navy. When we loaded the TARTAR TSAMS and aimed then over the audience, a cheer went up - pretty impressive. The Shakedown cruise to Northern Europe, showing the French, Germans, Swedes, and
Danes what a great and proud ship we were, was the highlight of my tour.

Comments: I myself received orders to the Duce after leaving Signalmen Class A school in Orlando December 75. She was supposed to be in Mayport when I arrived there after two weeks leave in Hillside, N.J.. The Duce was nowhere to be found in Mayport nor did anyone know where she was. After three weeks in a holding Barracks, I was flown to Philly, Pa where she had been for more than a year. She was ready to leave when I boarded.
My first Sea Detail was a six hour ride down the Delaware River. It was January and 21 degrees without the wind-chill factor. Most of the OC dept stood on the signalbridge and we were very happy to be headed to Florida.
The Duce had been refitted with the latest in laser guidance fire control systems, electronic warfare toys and other mysterious stuff that I still can't pronounce correctly.
Subsequently, during the next year (1976), the ship and crew underwent several Sea Trials in the Caribbean and a 6 week stint in Cuba where she earned the Battle E ribbon. In the early spring of 1977 we were off for our first Med cruise with the new and improved Charlie duce. By the way, the war in Israel was still raging when we arrived in Haifa.
1978 yielded yet more Caribbean cruises, another battle E and another Med cruise. Finally, for me at least, in January of 79, we took the cruise back up the Delaware river for another refitting.
I was discharged in mid summer 1979 while she was in dry dock mostly gutted. That was the last I saw of the Charlie Duce, My home for almost for years.
Regards
Miles Holliday (ex SM3)

Comments: The two most fun days of my life were spent on board the Adams as we crossed the Equator in 73. As a polywog, I raised hell and along with Ross McMinn and Judd Bowness, among others, received special attention in Shellback Land. I was one of the few to plead not guilty before the Royal Baliff, and Ross and I were adjacent to each other in, as Chief Dotson put it, TO THE STOCKADE. I was one of the few who the Captain got down on his hands and knees to question me about mutiny and conspiracy as King Neptune (Markham) pinned my head to the deck with his trident. I now live in Florida and primarily do DJ for parties, weddings and special events (no not a ***** bars). As Ross says in his paragraph, I have maintained contact with Ross, Jud Bowness, I have seen John Louthan, as well as having talked to Stan Beers, Patrick Moran and Popcorn Walker. I would love to hear from anyone I partied with. I would love to find Tom Anderson, Dough Hearley and Brad Kelly, to name a few. For officers, I remember how cool John Parr and Tree were. I ran into T. J. Moore a few years back, he was Commodore of a destroyer squadron in Norfolk. Glad Ross turned me on to this page. I am going to contact Popcorn and make sure he gets on it.
